Project Server 2007 automatically creates enterprise resources from local resources

Microsoft Project Server Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Overview

Microsoft Project Server Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Details

Background Information

Because of a default setting in the Import Project Wizard when importing enterprise projects, users with Administrator permissions can accidentally import local resources into Project Server 2007 as enterprise resources.

Resolution

To avoid importing local resources as enterprise resources in Project Server 2007, the Project Server administrator should always do the following when importing enterprise projects using the Import Project Wizard:

1.  Lauch Project Professional 2007 and connect to Project Server with Administrator permissions.

2.  Click Tools > Enterprise Options > Import Project to Enterprise.

3.  Select a local project and then click the Open button.

4.  Click the Map Resources link in the sidepane on the left.

5.  In the Map Project Resources onto Enterprise Resources dialog, map local resources onto enterprise resources and then click the OK button.

In step #5 above, if you left at least one local resource unmapped to an enterprise resource, you will see the local resource in the Import Resource grid on the right side of the Confirm Resources page.  Examine the value in the Import column for the local resource .  The default value is Yes, which means the system will import the local resource as an enterprise resource!

6.  For each local resource in the Import Resource grid, change the value in the Import column to No.

7.  Continue on with the remaining steps in the Import Project Wizard.
