Background Information
When you open an enterprise project and apply the Resource Usage view, this View shows all tasks assigned to each resource from the current project, plus shows a single line entry for each additional project to which each resource is assigned tasks. The Work totals shown in the timephased grid (yellow/white grid on the right), are incorrect for every resource assigned to multiple projects.
If you attempt to level an overallocated resource, the system treats the UNOPENED projects as HIGHER PRIORITY projects against the OPEN project, thus, pushing tasks far out into the future in the OPEN project while leaving tasks untouched in the UNOPENED projects. If you open all of the enterprise projects to which any resource is assigned tasks, the Resource Usage view shows the correct Work totals for each resource in the timephased grid.
This problem has persisted in every version of Project Server, including the 2002, 2003, and 2007 versions. There is no Hotfix, Cumulative Update, or Service Pack that resolves this issue in any version of the software, nor is there any workaround.
Resolution for Project Server 2003
Each project manager should complete the following steps to eliminate this problem:
1. Launch Project Professional 2003.
2. In the Project Server Accounts dialog, deselect the "Load summary resource assignments" option.
3. Click the Connect button.
From this point forward, the Resource Usage view displays only the task assignments for each resource in all currently-open projects. If you open all of the projects to which any resource is assigned, the Resource Usage view shows the correct Work totals for each resource in the timephased grid. To level an overallocated resource across multiple projects, you must open each of the projects in which the overallocated resource is assigned tasks, and then level the resource in the Resource Usage view.
Resolution for Project Server 2007
Each project manager should complete the following steps to eliminate this problem:
1. Launch Project Professional 2007.
2. In the Login dialog, deselect the "Load summary resource assignments" option.
3. Click the OK button.
