Tasks for all project team members appear on the My Tasks page of the Project Manager

Background Information

The project manager creates an enterprise project, builds a project team using the Build Team dialog, assigns resources to tasks, and then publishes the project. The project manager can now see the task assignments for all team members on his/her My Tasks page in Project Web Access, while the team members cannot see any of the tasks on their My Tasks pages.

This problem is caused by the Project Server administrator failing to specify a value in the Default Assignment Owner field for every resource in the Enterprise Resource Pool. When an enterprise resource has no specified Default Assignment Owner value, Project Server 2007 assumes that the project manager is the Assignment Owner for each task, forcing the tasks to appear on the project manager’s My Tasks page instead of on the My Tasks page for each resource.

Resolution

The Project Server administrator must immediately complete the following steps:

1. Log into Project Web Access with administrator permissions.

2. Navigate to the Resource Center page.

3. Click the View pick list and select the Work Resources view.

4. Select the option checkbox to the left of each human resource.

5. Click the Edit Details button.

6. Copy the name of the resource in the Display Name field and then paste the name in the Default Assignment Owner field.

7. Click the Save and Continue button.

8. Repeat steps #6-7 for every selected resource.

To resolve the problem in the individual project, the project manager must complete the following steps as well:

1. Open the enterprise project.

2. Click View > Resource Usage.

3. Right-click on the first column to the right of the Resource Name column and select the Insert Column item from the shortcut menu.

4. Click the Field Name pick list and select the Assignment Owner field, and then click the OK button.

5. For the first task assignment of the first resource on the list, click in the Assignment Owner cell for the task, click the pick list in the cell, and select the resource’s name from the list.

6. Press the Enter key on the keyboard.

7. In the Assignment Owner column, select the first task edited in step #5 and then select all other tasks assigned to the first resource.

8. Click Edit > Fill > Down.

9. Repeat steps #5-8 for every human resource listed in the Resource Usage view.

10. Click File > Publish.

11. Save and close the enterprise project.
